We’re so excited to share Kristen and Neal’s wedding day! They were Ohana Event’s first signed contract and we cannot thank them enough for trusting us when we were still developing our business. We would like to share a little bit about the happy couple. Kristen and Neal met while studying at Indiana University, and started dating in 2012. 4 magical years later, Neal proposed back here in Chicago at Duck Duck Goat, with the proposal printed on the back of the dessert menu. Believe it or not, this is the second wedding we planned this year that had a proposal after Duck Duck Goat! Then after school they moved back to Chicago and decided to have their wedding in the city where all of their friends and family live.
Now lets get to the wedding day! It was the perfect weather, averaging 75 degrees with a few scattered clouds. For a late June wedding, this was ideal! It rained every saturday for a few weeks before their big day so we were definitely crossing our fingers so they could host the wedding outdoors like they hoped for.
Starting from the beginning of the day, the hair and makeup prep for all the bridesmaids and adorable flower girl took place at the Peninsula in Chicago, IL. Kristen gifted everyone floral robes so everyone could match in the morning.
Don’t forget about the groom! Neal had to put some finishing touches on his vows, we love when vows are finished on wedding day because it’s a time that’s so full of love and emotion so you know the vows are coming from the heart.
Ready for the first look in the Peninsula!
Time to take pictures around the city of Chicago!
Kristen and Neal shared a beautiful ceremony overlooking the skyline of Chicago on the terrace of the Adler Planetarium. Flowers For Dreams designed beautiful arrangements to sit atop white pedestals to outline the bride and groom. Their invitations, programs and menus were designed and printed by Double Trip Press! A few months before the wedding we found out that Lake Shake was happening right behind the Adler Planetarium that same weekend. For those of you who don’t know what Lake Shake is, it’s a massive three day country concert at Northerly Island. This made us ALL worried like crazy, we were scared the sound would bleed over and it would interrupt their outdoor ceremony. We were very pleased that on wedding day we discovered the Adler Planetarium blocked a lot of that noise so we were left with a quiet ceremony after all.
The guests were all invited onto the two level terrace right behind the ceremony location for cocktail hour. They had a Jazz Trio playing live music to make a more lively atmosphere. Kristen’s specialty drink was called “The New Buffalo” which was vodka based and in a vintage pink goblet. Neal’s specialty drink was “The Las Vegas” which was made with bourbon in a high ball glass.
After enjoying the beautiful weather, the guests headed inside the Adler Planetarium to enjoy a seated dinner and LOTS of dancing!
Once the sun set it was time for the cake cutting and first dance!
Good night, Chicago!
