It’s official, you’ve narrowed it down, carefully selected, and you have your bridesmaids! Now for the hard part. What the heck will they wear? Don’t stress, we have listed some things to consider while navigating the dress selection process so you can ultimately find perfect outfit for your right hand gals!
First things first, you have to think about what colors you are looking at. There are SO many options, so be sure to consider the colors you are incorporating into your big day. Consider the colors of the space you are getting married in, what season it will be, and what your favorite colors are in general. If you’re going neutral in all of your decor, stick to neutral (or emerald green, to match the greenery) for the bridesmaid dresses to compliment.
Velvet, or satin? Chiffon, or lace? Dresses come in many kinds of materials, so it is important to consider which fit best into your vision. Consider cost, comfort, and seasonality. Velvet being a heavier material, may be best for winter! Whereas satin can be light + flowy, perfect for summer! If you have the same material for all the ladies, they will look cohesive even if the colors and styles of their dresses are completely different.
Maybe your other half has a strong idea of what his groomsmen will be wearing and you’re still not sure what your ladies will wear. Take their colors/style into consideration and pick something that will pair nicely. If the groomsmen are wearing navy, it would not look so nice to have the ladies in black. Or if your fiance loves orange and wants his guys to wear an orange tie, we would recommend staying clear of green dresses.
Remember how we mentioned velvet may be great for winter weddings? Dene + Chris thought so too! We love the red velvet complimented with the black tie vibe. Or if you’re in the opposite season like mid-summer, lightweight chiffon dresses make for perfect flowy attire.
We’ve been seeing more and more dress patterns lately, primarily floral patterns. It’s a fun way to incorporate a little extra dose of personality into your outfits. You can choose from floral patterns, watercolor designs, two-tone dresses (top and bottom half different colors), etc. Kayla’s bouquet matched her bridesmaids’ dresses while the bridesmaids kept to just greenery so the overall look did not look too busy.
The question everyone is wondering, what is popular right now?! It’s actually quite difficult to pick a “trend” in bridesmaid dresses because everyone has their own taste preferences and there are so many factors that get put into picking the right dress like we’ve already discussed; seasonality, color choices, bridesmaid figures, etc. What we find is trending is not having all the bridesmaids fully match. We don’t think this trend will ever go away. It allows the girls a little more freedom as to what they can wear and a lot of times that makes them feel more comfortable on wedding day. Here are some fun examples of how to rock the mis-matched trend!
Different shades of one color
Different necklines
Different textures/materials
But, if we HAD to choose a dress style that is has been popular/trendy this past year, it would be mid-length satin dress! While we have yet to see our couples go this direction, below are some links to places to purchase.
Below we’ve shared a collage of a collection of other bridesmaid dresses we’ve seen recently, hopefully to spark some more ideas!
We hope we were able to share some inspiration so you can find the perfect dresses for your wedding!
