October 30, 2019
Let’s flashback to June 30, 2018. For those of you who did not have to be outside, you probably wouldn’t remember off the top of your head that this was one of the craziest heat index days of the summer. Actually it was one of the hottest day in the past few years. We had been hoping and praying for no rain for months on end but did not even contemplate worrying about the heat. Hanna and Joe planned a gorgeous outdoor wedding with the reception being held under a tent and I’ll see it like this, we really didn’t have a great back up plan. The back up plan was to add another tent connecting to the main tent which they would have the ceremony and cocktails under.
When we started looking at the forecast 10 days out, we were pleased there was no rain but had to start thinking of ways to accommodate the 100° for an outdoor wedding. We purchased a bunch of fans the day before from Home Depot for some extra air flow. The florist also had to provide some silk flowers to withstand the heat because certain real flowers would wilt the second they were out of water. And we made a few runs to the local gas station when all the ice melted, even with an air conditioned truck.
The wedding took place at the Wandering Tree Estate in Barrington, a beautiful property with as many acres as you could imagine. The ceremony took place underneath a tree with hanging chandeliers and hoops of floral. Cocktail hour was on the opposite side of the property at a train museum where all the little kids enjoyed watching trains go around on loops. Then the guests entered the tent for the reception. All of the long guest tables had beautiful crystal chargers, menus, and a sprig of greenery that outlined the dinner menu provided by Limelight Catering. The tables were draped with chiffon runners down the middle with gorgeous glass details spread among.
One of our favorite memories from the heat was all about the cake. Everything circles back to sweets, am I right? The wedding cake was butter cream and it wouldn’t last a second out in the heat, the DeEtta’s Bakery told us that week. So we had to keep it on in the caterers air-conditioned truck until one minute before it was the cake cutting. Even with this one minute there was a bubble forming on the top! We were getting nervous the entire cake would quickly begin melting and sinking but immediately after the cake cutting, it was taken to the truck to keep cool until it was served.
We will never forget one of the most gorgeous tent weddings we’ve ever been a part of and are so thrilled that even through the heat, it was hard to get people to leave! Part of that might have been due to Hanna and Joe’s beautiful baby girl, Maya. Only a year old, she celebrated alongside on that special day she stayed all the way until the end; talk about one of the most well behaved babies we’ve ever seen!
