Today marks 6 months from our wedding! What? Honestly I cannot believe it. It does not feel like it’s around the corner but I always tell our couples that six months starts the countdown, so here we are.
I felt it was fitting to finally share the engagement party that Phil helped put together to celebrate our engagement back in August! And to be honest, I’m pretty excited to think about something other than COVID-19, who else needs a break from the negativity?
Our engagement party was held on the rooftop of one of our favorite neighborhood spots, Bernie’s Lunch & Supper Club. Pretty sure we could be considered “regulars” once the weather turns. If you’ve never been in the summer, I highly recommend. They have a lovely rooftop with a full bar and guest tables with umbrellas in case it gets too hot. They also have a “nook” that sits against the edge of the roof that hosts private events. They set up tables for us and rearranged the furniture exactly how we wanted it. We focused on a nice open bar and heavy appetizers, to off-set the bar 😉 They continued to bring out more and more appetizers throughout the evening so it wasn’t a rush all at once.
My favorite part was the favors we had for all of our friends and family. Phil and I love popcorn so we had customized cookies made by Bittersweet Pastry that had an engagement ring “popping” out of a popcorn box. These cookies were placed in popcorn boxes that had homemade popcorn in them with a sign on the front saying “He popped the question and she said yes!”. These were sitting on the wall edge for guests to take at the end of the evening.
Don’t miss the napkins we had customized as well! If you’re new to Ohana Events, you probably do not know the back story of Phil and I. Long story short, we started dating back in high school and made it through long distance in college. Almost exactly 11 years after we started dating (08-18-08) he proposed in Lurie Garden on 08-16-19. Hence why our customized napkins said “it may have taken 11 years… but now we’re here so cheers!” A huge thanks to For Your Party for making the designing process quick and easy! We also had “she said yes” balloons (thanks Paris 312!), pictures of the actual proposal day, fresh flowers and fun specialty cocktails.
Say “hi” to the Kuhn’s!
