Sometimes you just don’t know when you’re going to find your special someone. And when you get invited to a mutual friend’s frat house party in college, you just go and don’t think about it. Well little did Lindsey suspect, that’s where she met her future husband, Cody, back in early 2011! Being Northwestern graduates, they went on separately to get their MPH and JD in different states but came back together to Chicago once they started their careers. That’s why they decided to get married in the city they fell in love instead of their hometowns of Oakland, CA & Chapel Hill, NC. It was also a great meeting ground for both sides of the family.
Cody and Lindsey forgo the option to have wedding parties because their wedding was just above 100 guests and they wanted to be able to spend the wedding morning with their closest family members and friends. I think both of their grandmothers got the #1 cutest grandma award, especially after they did a joint grandmother reading during the ceremony. It was beyond adorable to see them come together with huge smiles and happiness for the newlyweds.
They spent the morning in their beautiful condo that had floor to ceiling windows to let in all the natural light. It was a relaxing and stress-free morning to say the least.
Lindsey walked over to meet Cody at Agora which are giant iron “leg” sculptures on the South end of Grant Park, adjacent to their building. And after a lovely first look, they strolled through the park to take pictures with one another. Then when it was time to head to West Loop, they made a pit stop (pre-planned) at Monteverde. They did not want to be seen by guests as they arrived so they made a reservation for 2 to have a quick cocktail as guests entered into the building. Then right before it was go-time, they took the elevator to their positions.
The ceremony took place on the rooftop terrace at Loft Lucia facing the SW corner. Unfortunately, you can’t see the large Cubs sign waving in the wind directly behind them. Being huge Cubs fans, they loved seeing their proud sport team flag in the distance!
Little can you see in the pictures, it was one of the most beautiful Saturdays of the summer. Perfect weather, not too hot and not too cold. And halfway through the ceremony, the sun hid behind a building so it was perfect lighting to say their nuptials in comfort. Cocktail hour was immediately after on the terrace (the chairs were moved immediately) and also in the indoor/outdoor space right next to it. There was a lot of lounge furniture, delicious cocktails and tasty treats for guests to enjoy while mingling.
Dinner was held one floor lower so after the quick hour passed, guests were ushered to see the beautiful reception set up in sunset lighting. Most of the tables were long wood tops with greenery and flowers down the middle. The geometric napkins with sprigs of greenery and menus were the perfect welcome for guests to sit down. There was also a few round tables with tall centerpieces to flank the room. And don’t miss the homemade table numbers made out of wine bottles!
The night consisted of a cake cutting, wonderful speeches and a whole lot of dancing! If you’re looking for a space for a smaller wedding, around 100 guests, Loft Lucia is an amazing option to look into. Especially in the summer months when you have access to their terrace!
Congratulations once again, Lindsey & Cody, we miss you & can’t wait to catch up again!
